Why Continuous VFFS Matters for Medium-Bag Packaging Lines

Why Continuous VFFS Matters for Medium-Bag Packaging Lines

The Production Challenge: Where Medium-Bag Lines Lose Efficiency

Medium-bag packaging lines face a specific set of inefficiencies that smaller or larger lines do not. Sealing cycles that are too slow create bottlenecks at the jaw station. Inconsistent film pulling causes bag length variation and seal misalignment. Changeover between bag sizes or film types requires extended downtime. For operations running granules, powders, snacks, or frozen food at medium-bag volumes, these inefficiencies compound into significant output loss and increased labor cost per unit.

What Makes the KP-G520 a Continuous VFFS Machine

The KP-G520 High Speed VFFS Packaging Machine is designed for continuous motion operation — meaning the film, forming, filling, and sealing processes run without stopping between bags. Unlike intermittent-motion machines that pause at each seal cycle, continuous VFFS maintains constant film movement, which increases throughput, reduces mechanical wear on sealing jaws, and improves seal consistency across long production runs.

Core Configuration

The KP-G520 is built on a high-specification drive and control architecture:

  • 5-Servo Drive System: Independent servo motors control film pulling, bag length, jaw motion, and cross-seal timing — enabling precise synchronization across all packaging axes without mechanical coupling.
  • Siemens PLC Control: Industrial-grade programmable logic controller provides stable process management, recipe storage for multiple SKUs, and integration-ready I/O for upstream and downstream equipment.
  • Lap Seal and Fin Seal Support: The machine accommodates both lap seal (overlapping film edges) and fin seal (film edges folded outward) configurations, supporting a wider range of film materials and bag styles without tooling changes.

Packaging Speed

The KP-G520 achieves up to 130 bags/min depending on product characteristics, bag dimensions, and film type. For most medium-bag applications — typically 100g to 1kg fill weights — the machine operates in the 80–120 bags/min range under standard production conditions. Speed is adjustable via the HMI without mechanical intervention, allowing operators to match line speed to upstream filler or downstream conveyor capacity.

Applicable Materials

The KP-G520 is suitable for a broad range of product types across food, snack, and pharmaceutical categories:

  • Granules and powders
  • Puffed snacks and rice crackers
  • Seasonings, flour, and coffee
  • Dried fruits, nuts, and candy
  • Frozen food granules
  • Pharmaceutical granules and nutraceutical blends

Bag Types Supported

The machine supports five bag formats to cover the full range of medium-bag retail and industrial packaging requirements:

  • Flat bag
  • Pillow bag
  • Gusset bag
  • Quad-seal bag
  • Box bag

Machine Footprint and Power

The KP-G520 has a machine footprint of 2200 × 1200 × 1700 mm and a total weight of 700 kg. Power requirements are 3-phase / 380V / 50Hz, suitable for standard industrial facilities. The compact footprint relative to its throughput capacity makes the KP-G520 a practical choice for production floors where space efficiency is a priority alongside output volume.
